Online retailers increasing price of goods to cover postage...

I was having a bit of a read today of a few articles I found online and stumbled across this one:

http://www.news.com.au/money/cost-of-living/ship-wrecked-be-warned-of-the-hidden-costs-of-online-shopping/story-fnagkbpv-1226299228605

SHOPPERS are being warned not to be sucked in by offers of free shipping because your online "bargain" can actually end up more expensive than paying for the freight yourself.

This is true in a lot of cases.

If you are just purchasing 1 item it may be the case but when you start adding multiple items into your cart the "free shipping" is not so free any more!

The article makes a good point of that:

And while JB Hi-Fi is selling The Office season one DVD for $19.99 with free shipping, dvdwarehouse.com.au is selling the same item for $9.45, with freight charges of $6.90.

So in essence your free shipping actually cost $3.64.  (...and thats just on 1 item!)

Something to think about when shopping next time in your favourite online store.
