How to - Mounting Speakers in the wall or the ceiling

In wall / In Ceiling mounting

A speaker style that is growing tremendously in popularity is the in ceiling and in wall range.
The big advantages are that they take up no space inside the room at all, there is no cleaning or maintenance and they blend in really well with today’s modern / minimalist living styles.

The installation of these speakers is a little more complex than a wall mounted or ceiling mounted speaker but the payoff is a completely hidden speaker setup.

The steps for mounting these speakers are as follows:

Part 1 – The tools
It is recommended the following tools / items be available:
Some of the required tools
·         Tape Measure
·         Plaster saw
·         The speaker template
·         Drill and screwdriver bit
·         Stud finder
·         Philips head screw driver
·         Your speaker
Part 2 – Locating your position

This is without a doubt the hardest part of the installation of these speakers.

It is extremely important that before cutting a hole in your ceiling that you inspect what is above the proposed location with a visual inspection.

This is very easy in a new home that is being built or in an existing home with a roof space.  It is near impossible in an existing 2 storey house and should really only be attempted by a professional installer or someone who is knowledgeable in this sort of work.

Once you have determined the location that best suits you confirm this with a stud finder to make sure there is nothing in the area for installation. (see figure 28)
